Hi everyone,

I'm a developer who's started dabbling in embedded electronics.  While looking for a main board/controller for the project I'm working on, it appeared that either the aduino or netduino was my only real choice.  Being a C# developer, I went with the netduino.  While looking up a reference on NETMF, I discovered this Gadgeteer concept.

I'm really intriqued by the Hydra and Spider boards.  The additional memory + touch screen capability makes it very attractive when compared to the netduino I have and I would really love to switch.  My question is:

How would I go about hooking up standard sensors to one of these boards?  For instance, the project I'm working on has several of the flat force sensors and a flow control sensor.  On the netduino/Audino it's pretty straight forward, you just connect the sensor to the appropriate pin on the board. Would I have to go through the process of creating a module to get these sensors connected, or is there some sort of add on board that I would connect them too?

If anybody has a quick answer or a link to an article that talks about this sort of thing, I'd appreciate it.  I browsed through some of the getting started articles, and the other topics on this board, but didn't really see anything that addressed this.

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

If your wanting 'pin' access like you would get on a Netduino, such as accessing the ADC ports for your force sensors. You would buy an 'Extender' module as they are being called. This will expose all pins of a socket onto a 0.1" pitch board which you can plug into a breadboard.
You can then attach your sensors to this. You just need to refer to the socket pinning diagram to determine which pin to connect too.

Regards,
James

Hi James,

That's exactly what I need.  I will look into the extender modules.

Here's an example that implements a sensor using the Gadgeteer Extender Module: http://wp.me/p1TEdE-4O
