I must say that I am thrilled by the Gadgeteer project. I have worked with microcontrollers and assorted hardware from 1988 until recently so I know how hard it has been to get to the point where one can start writing actual software.

Now to my suggestion. I would encourage everyone that make Gadgeteer hardware to submit 3D models to www.3dcontentcentral.com. From Solidworks (the software I use at my new job) it´s as easy as pushing a button to publish a design, but you can also publish most solid model formats like Iges, Sat, Step etc...

Together with the new breed of low cost 3d printers, designing functional hardware is just a very small step away for just about anybody.

Hi Magnus,

That's a great idea. Is there a way to tag models on 3dcontentcentral.com as being Gadgeteer-related?  Having SolidWorks (or equivalent) models is very helpful because it's easy to annotate them with metadata such as locations of screw holes, standoffs, etc.

Some members of the TinyCLR forum are publishing SketchUp-based models of Gadgeteer hardware.  There are also a few Gadgeteer projects on Ponoko.  If you post something, give us a shout so we can check it out!
