Welcome to the .NET Micro Framework Community Development site!!!

(If you are new to the .NET Micro Framework and are looking for a broad overview of the product, please see www.microsoft.com/netmf. )

This site supports a community development effort to produce future releases of the .NET Micro Framework with the same focus on quality and small footprint that has been apparent in the previous releases.  Since the release of the product into Open Source under the Apache 2.0 license, users are able to use the code  limited only by that broad license.  Partners expressed some concerned about the fragmentation of the product once it was released under an Open Source license.  Since Microsoft is continuing to invest in this product, it made sense to create a collaborative development environment where Microsoft engineers and external engineers can work together on one codebase to generate continued releases of the product that can provide a stable core for the technology.  So you, as a user of the .NET Micro Framework, can decide whether you wish to take the code off in an independant direction, use the core implementation versions, provide extensions to the platform, or even join the project and contribute fixes and features to the effort.

For more information on how to get involved please go to Get Involved.

You can take the code off in an independant direction, use the core implementation versions, provide extensions to the platform, or even join the project and contribute fixes and features to the effort.

Parts of the Plan

Core Technology Team
Microsoft and non-Microsoft engineers who are the gatekeepers of the core implementation and subsequent releases

Partners
Produce hardware and software products that work with the .NET Micro Framework

Contributors
Engineers who propose and execute bug fixes and features that are integrated back into the core implementation

Users
Take the code apply it outside of the community in accordance with the license(s).
